Sonoma and Marin counties in California voted in 2008 to approve a rail system called SMART. The SMART rail
line has one to two stations in fourteen cities along the line. This projects goal was to move the second station in
Santa Rosa from a location that was hard to access to one that was visible and easily accessible. The issue was that
since the new area was already developed, it was a challenge to coordinate all of the property owners and to come
up with a design that included over 300 parking spaces and a new connector road. Fisher Town Design provided
the design and political expertise to successfully move the station. This was done with funding from Codding
Enterprises and in conjunction with a coalition that included Creative Housing Associates, the Redwood Chapter
of the American Institute of Architects and the Leadership Institute.
